On January 26, 1993, amid the chaotic and tumultuous atmosphere of the war that engulfed Croatia, a tragic event unfolded in the small hamlet of Modrići, located in the region of Zaton Obrovački. On this fateful day, enemy soldiers committed a heinous war crime that would leave an indelible mark on the local community. In a brutal act of violence, six innocent civilians were brutally liquidated, their lives cut short by the ravages of conflict. This incident not only highlights the grim realities of war but also serves as a poignant reminder of the human cost associated with such turmoil. As time progresses, the scars of this event continue to linger in the memories of those who survived and in the very fabric of the community that is desperately striving to heal and recover from the deep-seated consequences of war. In our efforts to understand the lasting impact of these events, we engaged in conversations with several locals, each sharing their personal stories and reflections on how this tragedy has shaped their lives and their community.



Luka Klapan, born in 1970, is a multifaceted artist known for his work as both a painter and a filmmaker. His artistic endeavors often delve into contemporary themes and ethnographic issues, providing a lens through which audiences can explore the complexities of human experience. His first foray into film, an experimental piece titled Dream, was showcased at the prestigious 18th Croatian Film Days, marking the beginning of his journey in the world of cinema.



Since that initial success, Klapan has gone on to create a diverse array of short films, each of which has been featured at various international and Croatian film festivals, garnering recognition for his unique storytelling and artistic vision. Currently, he is immersed in the production of several documentaries that focus on the intricacies of a local community, aiming to capture the essence of their struggles, triumphs, and the ongoing process of rebuilding in the aftermath of conflict. Through his work, Klapan seeks to illuminate the voices of those who have been affected by war, ensuring that their stories are not forgotten but rather serve as a testament to resilience and the enduring spirit of humanity.
